Op and Meridio are part of a furniture collection, stool and table. Mostly conceived as outdoor pieces for balconies and terrances, it is a design collection for the Italian brand Hiro.
The brief was to create the a metal stool made of a single tube and a simple sitting. It was no easy task: the stool had to be simple, attracting and stable at the same time.
The main idea was to use a sled shape for the legs and a handle to move it around. The seat is a turned metal sheet curved on the edges and to give solidity. The handle is not just a functional expedient, but also a relevant part of its style design.
The stool has a 30cm diameter seat 43cm high and a total height of 49cm.
The table is a later design and it is made with a flat surface on a tube fixed on a base obtained from the same piece of the sitting.
It has a mechanism to fold the surface in order to reduce space if it is not needed. It is dismantable and becomes flat packaging.
The diameter of the surface is 70cm and it is 70cm high.
Op and Meridio stool and table are not the first metal furniture pieces designed, check it out also Steelo, a multipurpose metal chair for both indoor and outdoors.
It is not even the only collaboration with the brand Hiro. You can also have a look at Tongue bottle rack and Scelk, which you can also read about the making of.
